[Test pressing] - 7" United Kingdom Flexipop (titled)

Issued in 1982. Catalogue #S-LYN 12011-1S. 15-25 copies are thought to exist. Hard vinyl pressing with handwritten titles on a white-pinky label. B-side is blank and plays at 33 1/3 rpm. Some copies credit titles "Flexipop" & "The Cure Lament (R. Smith)". Some state only catalogue number "FLEX 022" or "FL 022". Others combine some of these elements. Inscripted in the a-side run-off groove is matrix number S-LYN 12011-1S. Date is september 1982.

		Just had a look at mine,handwritten text is on A side (same as matrix)colour is white pinkish on label and the b side is very smooth with no grooves and almost mat in tone.Here's a close up picture.. http://i1331.photobucket.com/a...

		hi there . about the copy from italy.. i think that if you would have to do a fake it would be very idiot to write on the blank side which appears odd ? no ? i think that if it is a legit copy it just could be an error... from my opinion... what do you think JC or John ?? regards

		According to Cure on Record the guy who worked at the pressing plant said 5 or 6 this must be wrong - as a matter of interest how many here have one in their collection as we speak??

		Yeah i do have it Easyme....i have been outbid already and not going to "chase it"....Lasse, good point, i had not really paid attention...As far as i am concerned, i am trying to keep an open mind with this item.When i bought mine years ago, the rumour was that 10/15 had been pressed...then i discovered the existence of the FL-022 version, so i am not too concerned about the change from top to bottom..There are definitely more than 15 of those out there that's for sure, closer to 50 i reckon (and it has been extensively discussed on this forum before)...if i put myself in the guy's shoes who wrote on those TP, I guess if he had 50 or so to do he might have made a mistake there and then and that's a fair assumption.The writing is consistent with known original ones..Add to that that the guy is selling a few other gems which are attracting quite a few bids(i know it doesn't mean much), so i have a good feeling about this one.Just my opinion...Nice to have a debate on the forum, it's been lacking lately!Cheers.JC

		I am with JC about records (expensive ones at least) from Italy - I do like the look of the other and like the fact it has a FP sleeve, I emailed this guy when he put another FP TP up (XTC and Soft Cell) to see if he had the cure one - he said he did but will only be selling on ebay as he knows it is worth a bit :)

I wonder if the handwritten text is on the a-side or the blank side? I have found a copy there the handwritten text is on the blank side, but the matrix number is on the a-side. Correct or not? Thanks in advance/Lasse

		I just wanted to give you some factual informations to help you draw some conclusions. It is difficult to have heard of an error of an handwritten text on such a low number of copies assumed to exist or known for Lament TP. I only got scan/photos from 4 different copies. I was informed from that other side for credits 10 years ago when Fabio told me. As you can see on the label of another collector a parenthesis is missing. I think it can probably be other errors or variations that are not yet known. The credits "mistake" on the other record side is I think a detail and an accident that can easily happen on blank or 1/2 white labels. That it is not so important for promotion according that only one side could be played. In fact, Fabio sold is acetate for Charlotte in November 2010 according the feedback of elikatuc. So, it was more than 2 years as I previously said. I guess the acetate for Killing an Arab was sold too by a different way.

		Hello, as correctly said by the seller, the label is white "pinkish" whatever the credits which is not so usual for a white label record. Despite the age, I got some white labels in the 80's which still are. I think that it mainly depends on how you store your records. According some others Lament TP labels, it is not surprising that some handwriting letters/credits could be not exactly the same as illustrated on the link bellow with the recent ebay TP on the left and 2 others TP from 2 others collectors. I know the seller (Fabio S.) for years and he is a true The Cure collector (but stops in the 90's). About 10-12 years ago, he sent me some photos of 3 rarities from his collection. He wanted to sold them one day one ebay. At the same period, Fabio also sent these photos to some other webmasters which at the time included Mindycure. It is only 2 years ago he decided to sold is "Charlotte Sometimes" one side acetate on ebay. I put some photos he sent me about 10 years ago (see link) which I never used for my website as he wanted to sold them. http://s118.photobucket.com/us...

		Mine on the A side too. I don't like the label looking so white given its age. I'm with John that Italy doesn't help either. I would definitely stay away.

		i'm no handwriting analyst, but if you put a curl like that at the top of your "C" in "Cure", wouldn't it be prominent every time you wrote it?

		Isn't it also a bad sign that the seller has read lots about this pressing and checked info about handwriting etc? Personally, I would not buy this. To live without knowing it was authentic would be too hard on me.

		hmm, the matrix seems to be authentic, will you see the Pictures ive got John? Here are the Sellers Word sorry for the delay... Here are the 2 best pictures i took. If you're familiar with other photos of Lament Test pressing you can see that its written by the same hand. The very first copies as far as i know were not written at all, while a little bunch were written on the blank side. Label is white pinkish as you already know. The cat. number photo is the best of ten, since my phone had some problems to put on focus a black image....

		Is it me or does the one on ebay look like it is trying to look like the one on here a bit too much, I know it is in theory written by the same person etc but I would not touch it with a barge pole and Italy is well known for producing fakes over the years - of course I could be completely wrong and if the seller is looking I completely sorry if this offends but it is just my opinion - I hope it is real as it is a rare item, but I would investigate more as the seller may have a real one or even might think it is real and it is not - either way buyer beware :) - sorry to sound a bit negative but having been duped in the past I would need to know more
