UK vs Europe pressing?
By

I have two different versions of this 2LP, and finally checked them against Discogs. I knew something was up because one copy has a glossy photo on the jacket with matte coating everywhere else, and the other has a matte photo with gloss coating everywhere else. Discogs has one listed as "UK" (
http://tinyurl.com/8qxwvok)
and another as "Europe" (
http://tinyurl.com/9cwnn46).
They don't mention the coating differences in the jacket, but they do have different matrix markings which match what I have in my two copies. Their "UK" variant has A-side matrix of "DFI 93 9 521 057 A" (my matching jacket has a gloss front photo). Their "Europe" variant has A-side matrix of "521 057-1-A" (my matching jacket has a matte front photo). Anyone have any insight here? Seems to me that there should definitely be two different listings here on the site, but I'm not sure if these were for two different markets, or just two different pressings with a packaging variation.

Any chance there will be a listing for the other version with matte photo, the same as "Show"

From Discogs site Uk issue in wide spined, spot-varnished picture-sleeve. Two printed inner sleeves. The spot-varnish is reversed by contrast with the otherwise very similar European edition.

YouÂ've right vandee:) My copy the uk-version with promo sticker have a glossy photo with matrix DFI 93 9 521 057 A, and I have also the Europe version with "521 057-1-A with matte photo.

No worries, webmaster, life definitely gets in the way. I'll work on scans. To be clear, the one pictured here is the UK version, with A-side matrix of "DFI 93 9 521 057 A", and would have a glossy front photo, matte coating otherwise. So the one I will submit will be the Europe version with "521 057-1-A" and matte photo. By the way, I think it makes sense about matrixes without packaging variations. Some day in the future, maybe it would be possible to just add the matrix variations to the item page (not add as a separate item, but list them). Just an idea for the future.

Hi vandeebgroup. We don't plan to dive into matrixes on vinyls (although I personally find them interesting), but jacket differences really matter to the site. It definitely looks like two items would apply here. If you are so kind, whenever you have the time please send the new scans so we can work on them. PS. Apologies to you and everyone for my late (and non) replies for the last... year? Be sure if I leave a question unanswered it is only because I didn't read it (just like everybody else I guess). Seeing the Forum going on without me is something I'm getting used to, and a big relief I must say. Makes me feel a bit less captive and yet proud of this site. Thanks everyone for your work.

Thanks for checking! Webmaster, if you'd like to consider the other pressing I have with different matrix and jacket another entry, let me know and I can work on scans.

Ok, I have finally checked. sorry to say, both my copies were the same, the uk one according to this, and one of them has a small import tag that says "Made in the uk"

Thanks guys. It was pretty cool when I discovered the jacket differences, I love subtle packaging variations like that. I didn't notice the inner sleeves, I'll have to go back and look. And I think that the grey versus black is a result of the coatings. Not 100% positive, but when I've worked with spot gloss on matte, the blacks are much less black when they get a matte UV coating. Looks more gray and flat. I've always really liked the artwork for Paris. I think the spot gloss on the cellophane tape in the art looks very cool. Anyway, if the webmaster is interested, I can try to get scans. I don't think the gloss/matte will show up on a scan, but perhaps a well-lit photo would be acceptable just for the purpose of showing the coating differences.

Totally possible. Germany maybe? I will check what issues I have in my stash later tonight when my kids are put to sleep

Yepp, thats right Zack. I have these two editons also, and i can confirm that Uk has DFI 939521057A and Europe 5210571A. Interesting, it will be something for our webmaster to investigate:) the eu pressing with matte front photo has glossy on their backside with matte in the middle with all the text on. Cool. The backside of the uk one is more grey and on the eu more black. The two inner-sleeves are also different between them. The eu one has lined inner-sleeves and uk one has not lined but cut-out on the sides/Lasse

Mine came with white promo-sticker on both labels and sleeve. There were also some difference on sleeve and there were not lined inner-sleeves as my last copy. I can send pictures soon.

Why this record has boosted its on price in the recent years?

In my experience this record has always been rare and expensive. I remember when it came out I could only afford one of the two new live releases at the time (this one and "Show"). Brand new in the US it was $36.
