The way this release is entered here is really misleading and quite simply wrong. The vast majority of this promo came without either inlay nor Folder. Salvatore has thankfully given some clarifications here below. There needs to be an entry without inlay or Folder. Right now, this record looks like a super-rarity, which it isn't.

I think it's a good proposition, ebiasi. Have we had releases with the possibility to enter only "complete" before? Theoretically, one could own only the folder without record or sleeve.

A 'please' will always help ; ) ok, my thoughts. 3 entries. entry 1, record and pic sleeve (the one most of us have) with complete/incomplete options. entry 2, record and pic cover and insert with complete (everything!)/incomplete (missing insert - picture cover not 'that' rare don't bother mentioning it's missing if you have THE INSERT!) entry 3, record and pic sleeve AND folder with complete options ONLY (you either have the folder or not) the record/sleeve isn't that rare so if you don't have the folder see entry 1. if you just have a record and plain sleeve see entry 1. if you just have an insert (and nothing else) entry 2 and so on. I have 3 copies or record, two with sleeve one without, all vinyl presses seem the same so its just insert and folder that are the REAL rarities. thoughts?

Copy with no sleeve

I bought a copy of this in the late 80's but it doesn't have the colour sleeve, is just in a plain one. Does anyone either have a sleeve but no vinyl or damaged vinyl and maybe we could sort something out?

I have 2 sleeves and 1 vinyl. one is signed by Lol Tolhurst and the other is not. both in very good conditions. i wasn't planning on selling neither but if you make me an offer i might think about it.

TO Katbown ... If in 1980 there was no cover ... it is not without reason ... I will keep it like that ... One day you'll know why ... (I think I have seen just a few without sleeve). Regards

it would be interesting to rate this item only as incomplete copy without inlay or folder as "most" of copies... thanks . regards. T

Bonjour ... Yes you're right ... The exceptions should remain one exception ... and the price of the exceptional is justified ... but never they should become the standard, the current, the common, that everyone finds ... It is obvious that we should create in first a plug for for the NON-exceptional ... then a plug for the exceptional (one or a few copies)... Furthermore, in the results of the 'Collection By Stars' ... the number of stars is no correct ... Regards.

Could anyone of the owners help out with the matrix number, please? It'd help to detect counterfeits.

Hi Max, I understand that you can't manage properly your record list as "incomplete record" option could not describe what is missing. I personally don't come here to manage my record list but to see records. But if necessary I use the incomplete option for promo records without sticker, folder, etc... but for commercial records without sticker or bag I didn't use it except for few Japan and UK records. Anyway, I'm free to adjust my excel record list as I want. I like very much this promo record but it was always easy to found even the 80-90's without internet. The Inlay is the true rarity.

Salvatore, this can mean that a 3rd version (the "without the inlay" that most of us seems have) has to be added here, right?

Hello, I got some infos. As you can see on the label 'not for resale' means this record could never be sold by the band/Polydor anywhere. As also mentioned by Parry it is a freebie. According some friends this 2 tracks promo record was give free if you bought something from the merchandising and in some early UK gigs it was also give free to the audience/people asking for it at the end of the gig. The inlay was only distributed to the media (Radio, press etc...). It is not a novelty that record labels give sometimes free stuff like poster, badge, 2 tracks tape... during or at the end of the gig. But, the reasons for the (free) distribution of this promo Cure record are still unclear. Some explain that the LP was not released in time as the UK tour started without the release of Pornography LP which was scheduled to be released earlier (Smith Birthday ?) and delayed because the artwork was not ready. Some said that it was intentionally delayed by Polydor to the end of the UK tour. This 2 tracks record was a sort of apologies to the audience. People went to the gigs ignoring what Pornography sounds like as no single was available too. At the time Polydor was unhappy with Pornography LP and dislike the 82 UK Cure tour according to Steven Severin. Few thousand copies are available without the inlay.

... and it would help to make counterfeits too!

I agree with cure1980, I don't recall seeing these for sale at any of the gigs I went to in 82 and I did a fair few that year! maybe I was just not in the right place? does anyone remember buying one at a gig?

I received my copy through the record store I worked in in 1982 not at a concert. I don't recall seeing it at the concerts I went to on the Pornography Tour - but then I was probably more interested in beer those days!!

maybe I'm wrong, but....many copies have only the sleeve and the record (as mine). And in many books/biography they says that this 12" was sell only at concerts venues. Maybe the so-called "incomplete version" is the common one sell @ concerts in 1982?

Never heard about fake copies for this... My copy (I bought in 1989) has : CURE 1 A//1V420 R on A side and CURE 1 B//1V420 R on B side.
