I remember also seeing this VHS in 1996 from a french seller in a record fair, but it was too expensive at the time and I did not buy it... :-(

Thanks easyfred. If you bought it in 1996 or 1997 it seems more likely to be genuine, enough for us. However, is this an in-house or promo. Have you got any further info?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It looks like all of us would agree to put a big question mark on it. We think it's fairly reasonable to put it in quarantine, at least until we know more. To orbinski: That's an unforgivable mistake :)

My tape has a slight difference. Mine is a 60 minutes tape, whilst this is 90 mins. Sorry for not submitting my copy before..

Sold with Retrospective gives the video some credit, but that seems around the time orbinski bought his copy and I saw it on ebay. It can be a coincidence. But if we assume the video is related to Retrospective, which is rather easy to find, then why none of us saw a copy before. A scarce Elektra in-house video for internal use, not for promotion? That'd be an explanation, but then I believe at least one seller would know and would make sure everyone understands that it's worth more than just a few dollars.

It's hard to say, I've definitely seen some USA promo vhs tapes (for other bands) that look incredibly generic. Maybe it's just something that the label rushed out at the last minute? Here are some other listings I found on ebay that show some other USA Elektra promo videos that are also incredibly plain:

Of course! You are probably right, I thought it contained wrong number as well. I will check my copy (and play it when I get the chance). My vcr is unplugged in my basement somewhere.

There are 13 tracks, last one is "The 13th". If it's genuine, to me it looks more like a video to promote The Cure by the Wild Mood Swings era, probably before Galore because "Wrong number" is missing. The label and everything is SO simple that even if genuine I don't think you can feel very excited about this if bought on ebay or anywhere. If I had this I would try to play it (NTSC!). It wasn't until I watched the Greek promo DVD that I thought seriously it was a bootleg.

Haha, I agree. This is a wierd video which I happen to own myself, and I am not satisfied with it either. Bought it on Ebay about a year ago. I remember there were 2 or 3 copies sold in that era in total. Strange video indeed...

There's something not quite right about it, i see why you have doubts...i'm not an expert but it's a sad day if we start seeing fake VHS....
