We're gladly surprised to see for the first time a 8" sized Laserdisc. Wonderful V.A. record. vandeebgroup: your comments on the item got here cut so please let us know whether you can add some more info, like what live version of "A letter to Elise" this is. Hard to rate item by the way.

Thanks for the links, very interesting. We'll leave the 2 stars while it remains the only 8" LD on the site and it doesn't show up again. Anyone's free to rate it anyway.

Hi, glad you like it! Some of my favorite Cure items are the weird formats (media chip, DCC, flexi, etc). They are fun to collect. I don't have much information, but here's what I know. It was made for video jukeboxes by Pioneer called "Laser Juke". Pictures here: http://tinyurl.com/23bj9z6 I know there are other 8" laser discs, but I'm not sure if Pioneer was the sole producer of discs for the Laser Juke or not. Has 9 other artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, and Black Crowes. Matrix numbers are 01-581A1-04 and 01-581B1-02. Interesting that it was made in USA but distributed by Pioneer Europe. Does that make it an import? A bit more information here at lddb.com: http://tinyurl.com/2v4hdv2 I'm not sure what version of Letter To Elise in on the disc. I have a LD player, and I'll have to see if it can accept these 8" discs. If it can, I'll check and let you know. As far as the rarity, your guess is as good as mine. lddb.com has it rated as $40 for a sealed copy, but I paid $98 on ebay (at auction, not a buy-it-now) plus shipping. I believe it's worth at least what I paid because of the unique character of the format. The worth according to lddb is only based on one sale, and I don't know how old that info is. Of course, the person who bought that one copy listed on lddb.com may not have been a Cure collector. We know what happens to prices when we get involved, heh :)
