The run-off

We can't see anything at all in the record that makes it look Japanese. There should be at least some Japanese writing. It's also unlikely that Lockjaw had released this single in Japan, they were just a teenage local UK band. To us, it's either a very rare UK test pressing with unique gatefold sleeve, or a fake. Personally, I wouldn't like to hear my source say it's a Japanese edition, that would make me begin to think something's wrong. To us, it'd be critical to compare the run-offs with the commercial release. Anyone can help? If they are the same we'll believe it's a genuine test pressing. Otherwise, maybe it would deserve a quarantined status. What does everybody rekon?

redhill, would you agree to move it to Quarantined? By doing so we're not saying it's a fake, but warning people we have reasonable doubts. - Personally, had the run-offs matched the original, or had your seller been in the UK and said it was UK test pressing, we would probably be giving the item the benefit of the doubt. But neither of this is the case. Glad you remembered all that info.

Just checked the 3 Raw Records single I have at home (Lockjaw's Radio call sign, The users and The Gorillas) they all have "RAW #..." written on run-off groove. I think this one is a fake, but maybe I'm wrong.

sorry.. i mean if it is a 'fake', not a 'boot'. (i dislike fakes/bootlegs/unofficial all equally and just refer to them all as boots!)

the only reason i mentioned it possibly being japanese is that the original seller (he was in the US i think) advertised it as such, although he may have just been guessing also because the sleeve has the look of a japanese sleeve. bought it about 7 years ago from GEMM. should have asked more questions at the time. if it is a boot, it seems to be a one-off - never seen another before or since.

I agree that the supposed Japanese provenance seems highly unlikely for such a "low profile" record in 1978...and you are right, either a very rare WL TP or a fake....
