Ok, thanks for the answer salvatore. Maybe some acetates come with this text on the label and some without. I have listened on this reflection acetate and it sounds like the album version i think, but i will listen again, thanks/Lasse

Hello Lasse, the radio stations/DJs... use ink stamps, stickers and/or manuscript reference for their own records collection listing. Sometimes they also use specific sleeves and folder to trace when the record was played. You can see that for the BBC 7" section in the website. But, these modifications are made by the radio/media and not from the record company. It seems that you find acetates which belong to the WEBR radio station. I never noticed the label text. It seems to be randomly present. My "At Night" acetate didn't have the text (nor WEBR ink stamp) at the difference of the one shown here. My "Funeral party" is similar. My others are not shown here but they didn't have the text nor the radio stamp. You should listen your acetates. The version track is similar to the album version but the sound (voice, drums) have a particular sound like a "chorus" effect. I didn't noticed such effects on my other acetates.

Hello Salvatore, i have noticed one thing about this promo-acetate elektra. If you check the following three promo(elektra) acetates on the site, play for today, at night and M. All these three acetates is different the others. They have this small text below the label rockefeller plaza new york sunset boulevard, do you think some are printed with this text and some without? I have three records of these acetates and none of them are with this text. And also these three acetates has the WEBB RADIO Stamp. /Lasse

These authentic acetates were cut in 1989 when Elektra regains possession of the The Cure catalogue/ rights for the America. They were cut by Elektra only for promotion not for production. They were first available on the collectors market in 1990. But you still had the chance to get some or many of the tracks available from private collection or US radio station. I agree that it is unusual in the US (and many European countries) to use 7ā?acetate for promotion. In these countries, acetates were mostly used for production and in house reference/staff only. The situation in London and UK was very different. In London, beside production and in house/record company staff, record company needed sometimes fast track cutting for song test (for specific ā??DJ/radio/journalistā?) and used then sometimes acetates for this as it is more simple and fast to obtain. A regular vinyl production needs time (the matrix, the pressingā?¦) and it is more expensive than a small cut of few 7ā? acetate which for the London (UK) scene 10-15 acetates were sometimes sufficient. Moreover, few years ago there was a plenty of mastering/cutting studios in London. So, the time to obtain them was short. This is also the reason why promo records are mostly the commercial issue (with or without white label/stampsā?¦) and rarely a dedicated vinyl record which needed specific matrix/pressing as it is cost-expensive. But once again it depend how many copies are needed. However, outside the UK Now this is different with CDR.

From page 21 in the book cure on record by Daren Butler Very rarely is there cause for a Cure acetate to be cut outside the Uk or away from a recording project. So this one sided 7 acetate of the track M is unusual for this reason, it was one of a number of different tracks by The Cure that Elektra Records had specially cut as individual acetates around 88/89, it is thought they were cut, for specific promotional use by a handful of American radio stations, Approximately 15-20 acetates of each track were cut which included a number of tracks only ever released on album, including the holy hour and the funeral party.

Why would you think these are fake acetates Amocure?...They are all from 1988-1989 after the Cure "made it" in America,so the interest would have been huge..if these where sent around to radios or records excecs,i wouldn't be surprised to hear 20/50 of each would have been pressed..Totally genuine i think.

Yes i know, but have you read the sellers explanation? sunsetsunday was the seller on ebay from united states. He sold of a friends collection who had died recently. And his friend worked for a record company, something like that.

Because in the last 10 month, i have seen about 10-15 like this acetate....it is really common for an acetate from 1989 or around, so i'm asking.
