Is there a story behind why this acetate was made? Does anyone know? It's uncommon to have two tracks (which remain unreleased as singles) cut on a 7"acetate isn't it...Amazing item, thanks for SHARING!

Unfortunately, I have no official information. The original owner which also sold me the Jumping Utopia and one of the WCIBY from the Master room test 3-set, only told me how he got them. As you correctly noticed this acetate could be not cut for production as there is not vinyl known for it. So, it remains the "not for prod" reasons including the mastering process test (mainly assessed by the band/staff), the commercial potential of a song (band/record company or some DJ/radio) or limited "promo". I personally never seen 10" Master Room cut for "test" purpose before 1986. It is true that according what it is shown on the acetate web page the 10" format seemed to be preferred for such tracks test. But I'm sure with the sell of Parry's collection some other "uncommon" 7" will be shown. The Birdmad girl is the first track on The Top sampler and was probably favored by Polydor to promote The Top album. But, Robert mainly played "Shake dog shake" or "Piggy" at the time to promote it. So, many assumptions could be made for this acetate including a possible test for the choice of the prefered track for a next single or simply to promote The Top. Dazzle, the first track of the Hyaena sampler was chosen by Polydor as the second S&B single. But, except the odd French 7" Shake dog shake/Top there was no second single from The Top.
